Cereals with whole grain use the entire grain seed of wheat, rice, corn, oats and other grains. “Whole grain” means it’s the complete grain, including the bran, the germ and the endosperm. The health benefits of whole grain come from those three components working together in their natural proportions. Adults who eat whole grain as part of a healthy diet tend to have a reduced risk of some chronic diseases. That’s why it’s so important to teach kids how to include whole grains in their diet — so they’ll continue healthy eating habits as adults.
Make half your grains whole! The 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend that at least half the grains you eat should be whole grains. For most people, that translates into at least 48 grams of whole grain daily. Every General Mills Big G Kid Cereal contains at least 8 grams of whole grain per serving, and more than 20 General Mills cereals deliver 16 grams or more.
